If you are having issues with your software on the Mac not receiving an input signal from your audio interface, or you can't hear audio via headphones/speakers connected to your audio interface, it could be caused by other things. In addition to this, the speaker icon in the Menu Bar will be greyed out if you have this icon enabled and visible. The Focusrite hardware controls all signals going in and coming out. ![]() Older macOS versions (Big Sur or earlier): ![]() To control the volume level, use the Monitor or headphones control(s) on your interface. Your Mac cannot raise or lower signals when an audio interface is set as the primary device in System Preferences under Sound. It is a reminder that the Mac computer doesn't control the signals coming in and out from audio interfaces. This message does not mean an issue with your audio interface. When selecting an interface as the input and output device in System Preferences > Sound on a Mac, the Output volume becomes greyed out or a message states 'This device has no input/output controls' at the bottom of the screen for both tabs. ![]() This applies to: all products on macOS Operating Systems
